It's almost Easter so here's my ode to the holiday, which really started as an ode to my cat, Buddy. We used to imagine him as the Easter Buddy delivering eggs to all of the good girls and boys. Silly, I know. But, that's what a creative mind comes up with and so it goes. So Happy Easter, Bunny!
Peter Weddle, who is a recruiting specialist that really gets to the heart of the matter. It was in his weekly email newsletter, which you can sign up for here, or by clicking this link - http://www.weddles.com/register/index.cfm, and it was called "Employers Behaving Badly."
"Candidates are people too. And in today's world,
people are more social than at any other time in human history. They
interact in two different worlds, one real and the other virtual.
Treating people poorly during the recruiting process, therefore, can
produce a double whammy that harms an organization's employment brand
not once, but twice.
What constitutes bad behavior by an employer? Whatever job seekers say
it is. That's the candidate analog to the oldest axiom in business: the customer is always right."
I wrote a post five years ago called "Applicants are people too." Re-read it now. :) In essence, treat your applicants right, and they'll possibly become your employees. And, if you don't hire them, but treat them with respect, they may become advocates for your company, or at least won't tell everyone they know how awful you were to them. ;-)
So, it's easy.
Be respectful. Do it everyday. Every time. Every applicant.
